Navy boot camp, always evolving… never changing:

The Late, Great, R Lee Ermey

I met R Lee Ermey when he spent a day filming an episode of “Mail Call” aboard the USS Nimitz in 2003. He was a complete class act. They gave him control of the ship’s 1MC (that’s the PA and intercom system that runs throughout the entire vessel) and we got to spend a day at war listening to the voice of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman making announcements. That was a very strange, surreal experience.

History is littered with man/boy warrior paradigms and all the horror that go along with them from nearly every civilization. These traditions persist in the form of hazing and extrajudicial punishments in modern military culture.
